I have noticed that butterfly population in my garden decreases drastically in winter. Are these butterflies migrating elsewhere?

Butterflies do not like cold weather. They cannot fly unless warmer than 50 degrees usually, but I have seen them flying in 42 degree weather that was bright and sunny. Some butterflies will overwinter as butterflies, eggs or chrysalises. Some butterflies do migrate to warmer weather. The most famous to migrate is the Monarch butterfly.
