You must have invited a saprophyte into your garden by adding the cotton hull waste. Saprophyte live off of dead material. Without an expert in fungi it’s hard to tell what specific mushrooms grew in your garden. You can post a picture of the mushrooms if you want so people can take a look and maybe help you identify.
