What is the difference between the two? The more I read the more I get confused!

Annuals are those which complete their life cycle in one year. You sow the seeds, they grow, flower, seed and die down in one year. You need to sow seeds again next year.

Perennials survive more than a year. They may not bloom in fall, but the next spring, they are back to flowering.
