I see some white powdery substance on some of the leaves in my garden? Could this be butterfly eggs? How do I identify butterfly eggs?

No, butterfly eggs are not powdery.

The easiest way would be to know if the plant is a host source for a particular butterfly. For instance, milkweed is for the Monarch butterfly. The eggs are the size of the head of a pin and generally, will be on the bottom side of the leaf, but may be other places.
