Controlling Snakes in the Garden

A garden attracts insects and pests. While some of them are welcome and are beneficial to the garden, not all of them are desirable. Snakes are creatures which are not really welcome.

Snakes are avoided mostly because they are poisonous. Not all snakes are poisonous. Some non-poisonous snakes can be a beneficial addition to your garden. If you prefer to keep the dangerous and non-dangerous snakes away from your garden, here are some tips.

Snakes are attracted to long grasses and weeds. Keep your grass as short as you possible. Eliminate all kinds of weeds in your garden.

Keep your garden clean. Do no let dry leaves to pile up. Pick out debris and other waste materials from your garden on a regular basis. That means no open compost, no open garbage lying all over the ground. Put the garbage and compost in bins.

If you use your garden to pile up wood or other things, then do so on a rack off the ground. Snakes use these as cover from danger and for protection.

Putting a fence around your garden can also help in keeping the snakes away. You can add some sulfur to the garden soil. This is said to an aversion for the snakes.

Simple things like keeping the garden clean and not letting things pile up can help in keeping the snakes away from your garden. A little dedication is all it takes.
